THE MOTHER CITY
PEACE BLOSSOM RIGHT NEXT TO THE WAR
The Mother City film we made for Kilis Municipality with contributions from the Promotion Fund of the Turkish Prime Ministry, targets local and global public attention, shows the tragedy in Syria and tells the sensitivity and dedication of Kilis, which, like a mother, has embraced more Syrian refugees than its own population.
The Kilis Municipality has achieved great success in terms of infrastructure services and social policies in the face of the sudden population growth, enabling Syrians to adapt to the city and life as soon as possible. The people of Kilis have also made every sacrifice to make their guests feel at home. In recognition of this exemplary attitude, Kilis, where two communities live in peace with no significant public order issues, was also nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Proving that it is possible to restore hopes that were destroyed by the war with affection, Kilis demonstrates that it is the “mother city of hope and peace.”
The Mother City commercial conveys the suffering of Syrians through a little Syrian girl who lost her mother. Upon arriving in Kilis with a group of Syrians, the little girl mistakes a woman for her mother who lost her life during a bombing in Aleppo. The girl is disappointed to realize that the woman is not her mother. However, the woman embraces her as if she was her real mother. This reflects the way the residents of Kilis embraced the Syrian refugees.
